Wavin Flag..

May 17, 2010 Leave a comment

This weekend i was watching TV and heard a nice song called Wavin flag by K naan, the FIFA 2010 theme song. It got my feet tapping and i was addicted to the music. googled for 2 minutes and found a direct download link to  the mp3 file, immediately downloaded it.  Very catchy phrases.. 🙂

I wish India was in WC 2010, guess we are way off in that direction but would love to see us in a WC other than cricket.. 🙂

See the champions, take the field now, you define us, make us feel proud
In the streets are lifting , as we lose our inhibition,
Celebration its around us, every nations, all around us
Singin forever young, singin songs underneath that sun
Lets rejoice in the beautifull game.
And together at the end of the day.
When I get older I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom Just like a wavin’ flag

Bike & Car servicing reviews.

May 12, 2010 1 comment

It had been a year since i serviced my bike and 6 months for my car. I would blame my cycle for the delay on bike, as i had not been biking too much and the battery had gone dead 3 months back. So yesterday took off from office and decided to give my bike and car for a service. I was not thinking of going to bajaj showroom as they had done crapy work the last time, so i headed towards thyagrajnagar where my friend had got his bike serviced and it was really a nice work. So i went there and gave him my bike. He told that the battery is dead, a problem in the chain sprocket and my clutch was too tight. I guess he had a good knowledge on the bike and was explaining me each and every details of the problem and how it needs to be fixed. With full confidence i gave my bike to him and he would return it to me the next day. Today i picked up my bike which was shining like a showroom one and the drive to office was smooth. The clutch was too soft, need to get adjusted to it and the brakes too.  The bike is running too good and i guess no cycle for this week atleast. 🙂

Coming back to the car, it was my 3rd free service and i left it in Kalyani motors. The guy took the car and told me that by 6 in the evening it will be ready. By 5:30 in the evening i get a call from them to pick my car. I reach there in 20 minutes and find out that they have not billed my servicing. Had to wait for the guy who picked my car to come and do the billing process. After good 20 minutes he shows the bill and to my surprise it was 1000 odd. Why the hell they call it as free service when they charge so much. He explains that engine oil and service charges does not come under it and needs to be charged. The only free thing is WASHING..  Next was the billing stuff, i told that i am paying by card and he tells wait for another 15 minutes as the billing needs to be changed if its card. UH!!! how does it matter? After paying the amount, i was given a form to fill where he was standing next to me and telling me to give him a good feedback. The work on the car was not so good as it was on my bike and has made me thinking should i give it to him again or try out other options. Things to check 1.Mileage – Has he done anything to tweak the tuning of engine to increase my mileage(He claims its done). 2.Hope the sound on my left wheel is gone when i take my car onto ghat sections.

Himavad GopalSwamyBetta & Blue Lagoon

May 1 2010

For a change we had planned this trip 2 days in advance and Sachin along with my wife’s parents joined us. I decided to leave a bit early to avoid any traffic and by 4:11 we were on the road. With rains overnight and an empty mysore road, i was speeding @ 100 constantly and by 6 we were in mysore. Mr Mysore (sachin) guided us through the city and we were quickly on the ooty road. We stopped on the road side for a quick refreshment and the menu was Idli and chutney. The chutney was yumm and after munching on a few idli’s we started again and our next stop was GopalSwamyBetta. Reaching the base of the mountain we had to pay an entry fee of 50. The roads are not maintained properly and a single lane all the way to the top. The climb is very steep and there are around 3 blind corners where you need to be on 1st gear.  On route to temple there are many places where you could park your car and enjoy the picturesque views of cloud bead just below the green mountains.  The view is simply mesmerizing. You are allowed to wander around the mountains and if you are lucky enough you will spot elephants. After few cliques and exploring the place for a while we headed towards the temple. The temple is dedicated to Gopalaswamy, which is one of the names of the Hindu God Krishna. A quick visit to the temple and we headed for a small trek through the mountains. It was nice refreshing walk in the mountains with just elephant grass around and few trees. After that it was time to head back to mysore for lunch with sun right on top of us and heavy traffic. The worst part was everyone in the back seat of the car had dozed off. It was the only time i felt if some one could drive and i take a small nap.. Reaching mysore we stopped at Sidharatha for lunch, though the lunch was good, it was too expensive. After the heavy lunch next stop was Blue lagoon- the KRS backwaters. The road leading to lagoon was bad and you will have to go thru a thota (field).  The view is  nice but the water is not so clear as its seen. There’s silt deposit near the shore and the water is a bit muddy but if you go ahead, you will get clear water. We played in the water till the sun came down and @ 5 we decided to head back home. With a stop in Mandya to get refreshed we did not stop any where and i was in bed totally exhausted by 8:30. All in all a great drive, scenic places, blue water, heavy traffic – too much for a day. Best trip of the year so far for me..

  • Route : Uttarahalli → Hoskerehalli(can be avoided) → Kengeri  → Mysore → Nanjangud → Gundulpet → GopalSwamyBetta → Mysore→Blue Lagoon → Back home
  • Total trip distance – 478 km
  • Top Speed – 120kmph
  • Mode of  transport – Swift
